This Kindle is one of the models currently available in the line of eReaders that Amazon offers for purchase to use with their Kindle ready eBooks. You can shop for eBooks directly on the kindle or buy on Amazon.com and have them upload to your Kindle in less than a minute! No more waiting in line at the bookstore with a fifty pound bag of books every month for me. Though it may sound weird to use, once you start using a Kindle, you will never go back to just plan paperbacks again.
This particular model of Kindle from Amazon has a much larger screen than other typical eReaders, including the other Kindles currently available. I personally prefer the DX model to the other models of Kindle as I can fit more written type on one screen so less button hitting for changing pages.
